Police questioning man accused of sexually assaulting American tourists

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are now questioning the man accused of sexually assaulting two American tourists at the Riu Reggae Hotel in St. James, last week.

Investigators began questioning Demar Scott on Sunday following his release from hospital.

Mr. Scott was employed to Riu Reggae Hotel as an entertainment coordinator.

The 33 year-old was taken into custody on Friday by the Clarendon police, a day after he was accused of raping the two tourists at gunpoint.

It is alleged that he barged into their room and proceeded to rape them.

During the incident, the gun reportedly fell from his hand.

One of the women retrieved the weapon and opened gunfire on him.

Mr. Scott, who was shot in the arm, escaped.

The two women have since left the island.

The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association has called for the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Detectives are investigating reports that the gun used in the attack on the two tourists was stolen from the room of another guest at the Riu Reggae Hotel.

The guest has given a statement to the police.
