Police release list of contracted funeral homes

The Jamaica Constabulary Force JCF has released the names of several funeral homes which have been issued with three-year contracts for the storage and handling of bodies for post mortem.

Thirteen funeral homes are on the approved list.
They are Bent Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth; House of Tranquility Funeral Home in the Corporate Area and St. Thomas; as well as Empathy Funeral Home inWestern St. Andrew and Portmore.
Also on the list of approved funeral homes are Lyns Funeral Home in Manchester, Doyleys Funeral Parlour in Westmoreland, Hanover and St. James.
Sunset Funeral Home in Ewarton St. Catherine; Padmore in Trelawny and Spalding Manchester; and St. Michael's Funeral Home covering St. Ann, St. Mary and Portland.
Spanish Town Funeral Home, Roberts Funeral Home and Morgans Funeral Home all operating in St. Catherine have also been approved.
Rounding out the list are Witter and Sons and H. C. Johnsons Funeral Home in Clarendon.
In the Force Orders released on Thursday, Police Commissioner Owen Ellingtonm disclosed that no other funeral homes outside of those that have been authorised, are permitted to collect and store bodies. Divisional Commanding Officers
have been instructed that if police personnel opt to contact funeral homes other than the authorised ones, they will have to foot the bill.
Commissioner Ellington noted that in sudden death cases, such as poison, murder, motor vehicle crashes and suspected cases of suicide, all of which are subject to police investigation, police personnel must contact an approved funeral home.
In other scenarios in which it is established that the police has no interest in the matter, relatives or other responsible parties are at liberty to contact the funeral home of their choice.

Maddens no longer contracted by JCF

Commissioner Ellington recently announced that Madden's Funeral Home no longer has a contract with the JCF for the collection and storage of bodies.
This after the Sector Committee of the National Contracts Commission reviewed the JCF's tender process, to renew agreements with funeral homes.
The review noted that Maddens was not compliant, as they submitted a NCC certificate in the name of Associated Mortuaries, which is a subsidiary company name.
