Police shoot and kill machete wielded ‘madman’

A man believed to be of unsound mind was fatally shot when he allegedly attacked members of a police team in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth on Saturday.

The police report that shortly after 6pm, they were called to Main Street Santa Cruz when Delroy Beadle, 32, was seen attempting to chop persons.

Mr. Beadle was reportedly asked to drop the machete.

However, he chopped one of the policemen, damaging his vest.

Mr. Beadle also chopped another member of the team and damaged the service vehicle.

He continued running and attempted to chop a policeman on traffic duties but the policeman opened fire hitting him.

Mr. Beadle was taken to the Black River hospital where he was pronounced dead.
