The preliminary enquiry into the death of eight people during a major motor vehicle crash along the Llandovery main road in St Ann, in 2009, was adjourned on Monday, because none of the 20-odd survivors showed up in court to give testimony.
The enquiry is now scheduled for August 26, when the witnesses are expected to attend the St Ann's Bay Criminal Court. Charged with eight counts of motor vehicle manslaughter is 38-year-old bus driver, Martin Clarke.
Mr Clarke was charged after the passengers perished in the collision involving two passenger coaster buses, on November 30, 2009.
Thirty other persons suffered injuries.
It was reported that one of the buses travelling from Montego Bay towards Ocho Rios, while the other was on its way from Ocho Rios to Brown's Town, when the drivers simultaneously overtook a line of traffic and collided.
However, the attorney for Mr Clarke, Peter Champagnie, is blaming the driver of the other bus, who died, for the crash.
He argued that his client, who was travelling from Montego Bay, swerved to avoid hitting several cows along the road.
Mr. Champagnie said the driver of the other bus was overtaking at the time and this led to the deadly crash.
