President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan are now in the island for their two day state visit to mark Jamaica's 50th year of Independence.
The plane carrying the Nigerian president and his wife landed promptly at 9:30 Thursday morning.
Dr. Jonathan has already visited Trinidad and Tobago which is also marking its 50th anniversary of independence.
Dr Goodluck Jonathan and his First Lady arrived to a 21 gun salute at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
They were greeted by state dignitaries including Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
The visitors then moved quickly through a routine ceremony that included the playing of Nigeria's National anthem by the Jamaica Defence Force military band and the inspection of the Guard of Honour.
Members of the Cabinet and other dignitaries also got the opportunity to greet Dr Jonathan and Dame Patience before they were treated to an African song and dance by Nigerians living here.
The President and first lady are now special guests at a special sitting of Parliament now underway at Gordon House.
