Probe on to determine how women got prohibited items onto JetBlue flight from Jamaica

An investigation is in progress, looking into the circumstances under which two female passengers at Kingston's Norman Manley International Airport boarded a flight to JFK International Airport in New York with prohibited items.

The probe is being carried out by the Jamaican airport, after one of  the women took an eyebrow razor onto JetBlue Flight 960 on Wednesday morning. The other woman had pepper spray.

Both women were taken into custody at JFK International, after they were involved in an altercation when the plane landed. Six people were injured.

Commander John McFarlane, Senior Director, Airport Operations, at Norman Manley International,  is awaiting a report on how the women went through security checks with the items.

"We are checking our CCTV systems and other investigative opportunities... to determine what we can find on this side," Commander McFarlane told RJR News.

Thereafter, he said, the findings will be shared with JetBlue, adding that he's expecting the report shortly.

One of  the women involved in the incident on the JetBlue flight has been charged. She has been identified as 61 year old Jean Ballentine, from Brooklyn, New York.
