There is no indication as to when the Queen’s Warehouse will reopen after being closed earlier this week due to the suspected release of hazardous material which left some employees ill.
According to Jamaica Customs, the facility will remain closed to the public, pending clearance from agencies which have been conducting an assessment.
Jamaica Customs says the hazardous material has not been identified and samples collected by the Ministry of Health, and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), will be sent to the United Kingdom for testing.
Results are expected within seven days.
Following initial investigations, Jamaica Customs held an emergency meeting on Wednesday with representatives of the Health Ministry, NEPA, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the Office of Disaster and Emergency Management and the Finance Ministry to discuss the matter.
Some of the items at Queen's Warehouse will be disposed.
