Chairman of Recycling Partners of Jamaica, Dr. Damien King, says the company over the last few months has increased its collection rate of bottles to 30 per cent of what is in the marketplace.

Dr. King says this is three per cent more than the global average.

"And this understates what we've achieved in the last five years because the market keeps expanding. So we are collecting 30 per cent of a larger volume," he noted.

He said five years ago, the company collected about 60 million bottles, but over the last 12 months it has taken 278 million bottles off the street.

Dr. King was speaking at Thursday's official opening of the Naggo Head Recycling Plant in St. Catherine.
