Redemption market vendors told to pay or be evicted

Vendors occupying the Redemption Arcade on Spanish Town Road in the Corporate Area, will have to pay millions of dollars owed to the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) or be evicted.

It's reported that several vendors owe more than J$ 2-million in stall fees.

According to Kingston's Mayor Angella Brown-Burke - strong action will be taken.

“We have sent a memo out to our Market Managers to remember what the rules are  - and t hose are the rules. We expect them to do the job the have been hired to do.”

The Mayor said she did not address the vendors on Monday, due to the manner in which they were demanding a meeting.  She however promised to facilitate a meeting .

Meanwhile, the Mayor outlined some of the discrepancies that were observed during the tour of the Redemption Arcade on Monday.

“Individuals have a gaming shop I don’t know if they are licensed to do so…it’s also a haberdashery arcade and individuals have turned it into a grocery shop….” she said.
