A full report has been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government by an investigative team which carried out a probe into the controversy surrounding the construction of shops at the Spalding Market in Clarendon. The Ministry has in turn sent the report to the Attorney-General's Department for review.
Noel Arscott, Minister of Local Government, who was presented with a 40-page preliminary report from the team early last month, confirmed that he had received the final report containing the findings. Mr. Arscott had asked the team to return to Clarendon to conduct further investigations.
However, the Minister said the findings will not be made public at this time, but will await the completion of the report from the Office of the Contractor-General, as he doesn’t want to appear to be interfering with that investigation.
The investigative team was made up of senior officials of the Local Government Ministry. It was assembled on April 12 to collect all relevant information concerning the building of the shops.
The Office of the Contractor-General (OCG) last month reported that its own investigation into the Spalding Market controversy was far advanced. It said the probe had brought up issues related to governance, accountability and fiduciary matters, which required detailed examination before any conclusion could be drawn.
