Residents clamouring for water mount road blocks in St James

Several students were this morning forced to return home on the first morning of school, as the roads leading into Montego Bay from Chelsea Irwin were blocked by angry residents.

The owner of the property on which the well which serves the community is located reportedly chained the gates to the property.

He reportedly did so to lock out the National Water Commission for failing to pay him.

The residents who say they’ve been without water for 6 months are now forced to use water collected from the nearby Orange River.

The police have since cleared the road block.

Over in John’s Hall to Hurlock, resident used trees, rocks and other debris to block approximately half a mile of roadway from the Johns Hall Main Road to the Hurlock Square also to protest the lack of water.

They claim that that they’ve not had water for 6yrs from the National Water Commission.

To assist themselves the residents reportedly connected pipes to a tank that is owned by the NWC to the community.

On finding out the NWC went to the community dug up and removed the pipes.

The residents claim that promises were made by MP Ed Bartlett that the situation would be rectified but to date they are still without water.
