As tempers flare following the police killing of Ribbiz Ultra Lounge employee Jermaine Richards last week, attorneys representing the popular restaurant and nightclub are seeking to clarify what they term speculation and misinformation circulating in the media.

The restaurant's delayed response to the killing which relatives have labelled as a cold-blooded murder, has escalated tensions and led to increasing calls for people to boycott the establishment.

In a statement Monday, the Tavares-Finson Adams law firm said while it understands the pain and anguish caused by the tragedy, it is encouraging all concerned parties to exercise caution and sensitivity in their statements.

It added that none of the directors of the nightclub was present at the premises when the incident occurred and that the alleged shooter was not employed nor contracted to the company but was a patron at the lounge on the morning of the incident.

It's reported that approximately 4:10 a.m. on January 23, Mr. Richards, a 40-year-old chef and a resident of Fleet Street in Kingston, was shot and killed by an off-duty policeman in the parking lot of Ardenne Emirates at the Kingston 10 location of Ribbiz.

It's understood that a member of the management team of the nightclub had a dispute with an employee and requested that the policeman intervene.

It's further reported that the Police Corporal was handling the dispute when Mr. Richards allegedly intervened in an aggressive manner.

This led to a confrontation between the two.

It's alleged that Mr. Richards was fatally shot when he pulled a knife on the policeman.
