Richard Solomon to be installed as Mayor of Black River

By Kimone Witter

Richard Solomon of the New Market division is to be installed as the new mayor for Black River, St. Elizabeth.

The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday when successful candidates in the February 26 local government election will be sworn in as councillors.

This was confirmed by outgoing mayor Derrick Sangster.

Mr. Sangster, who was successful in being re-elected for the Mountainside Division, says Mr. Solomon's deputy will be veteran councillor for the Malvern Division, Donald Simpson.

The ruling Jamaica Labour Party retained control of the St. Elizabeth Municipal Corporation, winning nine of the fifteen divisions to six for the People's National Party.

The JLP lost the Brompton Division and picked up the Ipswich Division, while this was the reverse for the PNP.
