General Secretary of the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees John Levy is raising issue with the length of time it is taking the government to begin wage negotiations for the upcoming period.

Mr Levy, speaking at a press conference on Friday, noted that negotiations should have started already for the new contract period, starting April 1, "and should have signed off and (be) ready to implement, but for the most part we have not reached with most of the entities."

He argued that the delay shows disdain for public sector workers.

"I don't know, quite frankly, what is the (government's) perspective as to how the negotiations are going to be treated this year, and I think maybe it is high time that the minister calls in the unions and have a chat with us," he said.

In light of these concerns, Mr Levy is urging the Minister of Finance & The Public Service, Fayval Williams, to meet with the unions for a discussion.
