The Airy Castle Main Road
in St. Thomas
has been reopened to single lane traffic after residents block the road early
Monday morning.
A police source told RJR News that the residents became angry after the police locked down a "round robin" dance in the area.
The source said the police had gone to the dance just after midnight following complaints from other residents about the loud noise coming from the session.
It is understood that when the police asked the promoter for his permit, he was unable to produce one.
The promoter was then asked to turn off the music but he refused.
The local police then sought assistance from the Morant Bay Special Squad to get the operators to turn off the sound system.
It is alleged that the owner of the premises and other persons verbally abused the police and the owner has been taken into custody.
Angry residents cut down trees which they used to block the road.
RJR's source says several communities are now without electricity as the trees downed power lines.
