Rodent control programme launched in Westmoreland

Steve Morris, Chief Public Health Inspector for Westmoreland

Public health inspectors have launched what they say is a robust rodent control programme in Westmoreland, in response to the outbreak of leptospirosis affecting the country.

This outbreak followed the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

Steve Morris, Chief Public Health Inspector for Westmoreland, has attributed the outbreak of leptospirosis to an increase in the rodent population.

He says seven communities will be targeted in the parish to reduce the number of rats roaming in those areas.

A number of bait stations will be placed in communities to attract rodents, he explained.
