Councillor Scean Barnswell has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking to be added to the lawsuit that has been brought against the Clarendon Municipal Corporation by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The People's National Party says the application was filed on October 21.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of Mayor Joel Williams and his deputy, Clivalee (Clive) Mundle, was brought to prevent their removal from office following a shift in the composition of the Municipal Corporation, which now gives the PNP a two-seat majority.
On October 16, an ex parte interim injunction halted a special meeting of the Corporation at which PNP councillors had intended to elect a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
The PNP says the application to add Councillor Barnswell as a party to the lawsuit represents the first step in the legal process towards restoring democratic governance within the Corporation.
The party says it remains committed to pursuing the appropriate legal remedies to ensure that the democratic will of the majority is respected and that the leadership of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation reflects its duly elected majority.
