Representatives of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation are to assess a breakaway for urgent repairs on a section of the Prickly Pole main road, near Claremont, which was the scene of a fatal crash on Wednesday.
Christopher Richards, a 45-year-old truck driver, died after his vehicle plunged over a precipice. The sideman was treated and released from hospital.
Councillor for the Bensonton Division, Clovis Gohagen, said Mr. Richards was transporting marl for road work in Prickly Pole, also known as Swamp, when the tragic incident occurred.
"He bring one trip in the morning and the second trip, it was raining. And on his way down to Swamp, a section of the road just give way and hence, he plunged into a ditch, and his second jump over the truck. He (the driver) didn't make it, he died on the spot."
Mr. Gohagen said work had started on the construction of a retaining wall on the Prickly Pole main road. He said the completion of the wall, will be treated as an emergency.
"We are going to look and to measure up the roadway heading down and actually put in the remaining wall that is necessary to prevent anymore breakaway from happening going down to Swamp," he promised.
