The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) says it is monitoring the impact on health services in the region following protest action by nurses on Tuesday.
Registered and enrolled nurses as well as registered midwives reported sick, causing disruptions to health care services at several hospitals.
The nurses are reportedly disgruntled over the outstanding payment of salaries, uniform allowance and retroactive overtime.
Regional director for SERHA, Lascelles Brown, told Radio Jamaica News that there have been disruptions to medical services, but not at the level where SERHA has been forced to implement emergency services at the institutions.
"Yes, there are some actions being taken by particular groups, but we are monitoring the situation and we are hoping that in short order, the matter will be resolved. So we're having constant dialogue with the groups and with the ministry," said Mr. Brown, who insisted there is "nothing alarming" at this point.
There is no word yet from the groups representing the nurses.
