Seville Heritage Park reopens

After being closed for more than a year for restoration, the Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann has reopened.

The extensive restoration was carried out by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT).

A popular heritage attraction for students and visitors, the site had been closed since April 2011 to facilitate rehabilitation of the great house and installation of a multimedia interactive attraction.

Laleta Davis-Mattis, Executive Director of the Heritage Trust,  described the new exhibition as first-class and the only one of its kind in the Caribbean.

She explained that restoration of the site was of such importance that the Board of Trustees decided to utilize all available funds for the project.

The 18th century plantation house has been restored, with improvements to the roof, floor and bathrooms.

A new state-of-the art exhibition has been installed which features carved stone pieces from the 1500's uncovered in archaeological excavations on the property, as well as several other new pieces.
