Another person is in custody in connection with the beating of a 14-year-old girl in Havannah Heights near Denbigh, Clarendon on December 30 last year.

A viral video showed the 14-year-old being thrown to the ground and kicked several times.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a love triangle involving the teen's mother, the mother's boyfriend and another woman.

In an update Wednesday, Superintendent Carlos Russell, head of the Clarendon Police, told Radio Jamaica News that six people are now in custody.

Their ages range from 15 to 52.

Calling the beating "despicable", Superintendent Russell said the police are preparing to lay charges against the accused.

The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has said a full scale probe is underway into the beating of the teen.

The teenager is now struggling to remember basic information after sustaining a massive head injury during the assault.

Head of the CPFSA Laurette Adams-Thomas has called for adults, especially women, to protect children and "lead the way in demonstrating healthy conflict resolution".

She said the CPFSA stands ready to provide the requisite support to the teen and her family.
