A member of the Jamaica Defence Force is now in custody, charged with shipping a large quantity of guns and ammunition into the country.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the JDF private was charged on Friday by the Firearms & Narcotics Division with conspiracy to traffick firearms.
He was arrested last week, following an investigation into the shipment of 28 illegal guns and more than six thousand rounds of ammunition into the country.
The shipment, which included more than a dozen rifles and handguns, was intercepted by the police and customs agents at the ports on December 19.
The Police High Command is expected to issue a statement on the matter today.
