Motorists are still streaming in to have their matters heard before the St. Catherine Parish Court under the Court Administration Division's Traffic Ticket Day in Spanish Town.

The initiative applies to those with outstanding or unpaid traffic tickets in St. Catherine dating back to February 1, 2018.

There are 200,000 outstanding traffic tickets in St. Catherine.

The drive is the first of its kind by the Court Administration Division to reduce the backlog of traffic tickets in the parish.

Kadeish Jarrett-Fletcher, Director for Communications, Client Services and Information at the Court Administration Division, said those who missed out will have another opportunity to have their matters heard.

"Persons who did not take advantage of the opportunity to come today, those persons who have reached out to us, we have started to list them for night court into next week and into April. Those persons who have not in any way subjected themselves to the jurisdiction of the court, the court is going to now proceed with the warrant drive. The persons who come who did not register for today, we've set up a tent that's behind you, that tent is processing those persons; they are currently getting dates to come to court for night court.

"Night court is usually held in Portmore. Today is the only day we're having night court in Spanish Town. So we're going until 9 p.m. today and we are at the moment listing for March 12, so we're well into next week with night court for persons who have outstanding traffic tickets," she advised.

Approximately 20,000 people are expected to take advantage of Wednesday's event.
