Councillor for the Independent City division in Portmore, St. Catherine, Courtney Edwards, says residents have grown frustrated with the frequent disruptions in water supply across communities.
Mr. Edwards says while the National Water Commission (NWC) has scheduled lock-offs, the disruptions have become more unbearable over the last three weeks.
He added that the amount of water available to residents during scheduled distributions is insufficient to meet their daily demands.
Councillor Edwards, who was speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Wednesday morning, said schools are also affected.
He said the challenges have worsened with the infrequent trucking system of the NWC, adding that a number of people are without adequate catchments to store water during lock-offs.
According to Councillor Edwards, the NWC has pointed to an electrical issue with the Jamaica Public Service Company's system as the cause.
But he has called for the NWC to implement measures, such as using a standby generator, to mitigate the challenges.
