Southern farmers suffer crop damage following heavy rain

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green says some farmers in southern parishes suffered damage to crops due to heavy rainfall over the last few days.
 
He says farmers in St. Elizabeth, Clarendon and Manchester reported losses.
 
There were also reports of minor damage in Westmoreland, St. Catherine and St. Thomas.
 
Mr. Green said the worst affected area appears to be South Manchester, including parts of Prospect, Downs, New Forest, Duff House and Alligator Pond. 
 
In St. Elizabeth, areas like Comma Pen, Malvern, Ballards Valley and Pedro Plains have been affected. 
 
Scallion farmers have reported losses. Vegetable lines, watermelon and tomatoes have also been damaged by the heavy rains. 
 
Mr. Green said more than 100 farmers have reported damage to fruit and vegetable crops.
