Spectrum Management Authority dispute not yet resolved

UCASE General Secretary John Levy

The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees [UCASE] is reporting minimal progress in its dispute with the Spectrum Management Authority.

The union had issued a 72 hour strike notice on the company, which resulted in representatives of both sides being summoned to the Ministry of Labour which then sent the matter back to the local level.

The parties were to return to the Labour Ministry on Tuesday to provide an update on the talks, but UCASE General Secretary John Levy told Radio Jamaica News that, given the limited progress achieved so far, a new date had to be set to resolve the matter.

The dispute comes against the background of a series of dismissals which have taken place using the fixed term contract non-renewal device.
