Radio Jamaica News has been informed that four more Cuban nationals have been detained by Jamaican authorities after they arrived illegally by boat on Sunday.

The Cubans came ashore in St. James in the vicinity of Half Moon Hotel about 4:30 a.m.

They were fed and given clothing by staff before being taken into custody.

They along with ten other compatriots are detained at the Freeport lock-up.

The group of ten Cubans arrived in two batches on October 26 and 27.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that the migrants have indicated that they are trying to escape hardship in their homeland.

Islandwide blackouts, a hurricane and an earthquake over the last few weeks, have added to the economic challenges being faced by Cubans.
