Custos of St. James, Bishop Conrad Pitkin, says Jamaicans must take a stand against crime, violence and corruption in the society.

Bishop Pitkin says the message should be "enough is enough".

The custos urged Jamaicans to "speak out" against criminality, insisting that staying silent will not help them, their families, communities or the country.

Bishop Pitkin also had a message for those pulling the trigger.

"I appeal to our young men, and if young women are involved, put down the ammunition, put down the guns, put down the weapons. Let us live together peaceful[ly]. Let us make Jamaica somewhere that we can be proud of. Let us make Jamaica somewhere that our children can once more play in the streets without fear," he pleaded.

He was speaking against the background of Wednesday's attack by gunmen in York Bush, Mount Carey which left one woman dead and another in serious condition.
