St. James gets $8.7 million for drain cleaning

The Ministry of Local Government has allocated $8.7 million to the St. James Municipal Corporation to undertake a critical drain cleaning programme across the parish.

Homer Davis, Mayor of Montego Bay, said the 17 councillors in the Corporation will be allocated $500,000 each to undertake drain cleaning in their division.

Mr. Davis said the funds, which represent 50 per cent of what has been committed by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development for special drain cleaning, will allow councillors to increase flood mitigation activities.
