Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, Operations Officer for the St. James Police Division
The St. James police say the decline in the number of gunshot victims is continuing across the parish.

But Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, Operations Officer for St. James, admitted that while the parish leads all others in terms of reduction in murders, it still has the highest homicide figures across the country.

He said various interventions being undertaken by the police to achieve the current declines will continue.

"Our strategies that we have been tweaking, implementing consistently, we are ambitious for 2025 to remove St. James as the most violent parish/police division across the island. And I believe based on how we are increasing and improving on our efforts, we should achieve and accomplish that," he declared.

More charges

In the meantime, Joseph McKenzie, once listed as the St. James Police Division's most wanted fugitive, is facing additional charges after a firearm taken from him during his capture last month was linked to four other cases under investigation.

McKenzie was arrested on August 25 and later charged with murder and possession of a prohibited weapon.

DSP Edwards said ballistic testing was done on the firearm which linked it to the four other cases.
