Prime Minister of St. Lucia Philip Pierre on Wednesday night implemented new COVID-19 measures, including a curfew, amid a significant spike in cases of the virus.
Mr. Pierre also announced that his administration would decriminalise protocol breaches.
In an address to the nation, Mr. Pierre said persons who have been previously arrested, charged and convicted for COVID-19 protocol breaches will have their records expunged.
He said the Government will for now persuade and encourage citizens to comply with protocol guidelines, not threaten and punish them to do so.
New protocols take effect Thursday and continue until August 31.
St. Lucian health officials announced that active COVID-19 cases have almost reached 400.
