Mother of the woman killed in Beecham Hill, St. Mary and Reverend Dr. Anthony Armstrong, Assistant Chaplain for Area 2
The St. Mary police are investigating a murder and attempted suicide involving a policeman and his girlfriend in Beecham Hill, Flint River, on Wednesday night.
The constable, who is attached to the St. Andrew North Division, is alleged to have fatally shot the woman with his service pistol before turning the weapon on himself.
He reportedly sustained a bullet wound to the head.
The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old D'Johnnay Graham of Essex district in Richmond. She was an assistant teacher-employed at Beecham Hill Primary and Infant School in the parish.
The constable is in stable condition at a medical facility under police guard.
The police say the cop and Ms. Graham had been living together at her mother's house for over two years.
The preliminary investigation further revealed that they had an argument which started earlier in the day about a telephone call Ms. Graham received while they were in Kingston.
The argument escalated when they arrived home.
It is reported that, about 9:15 p.m., while on the veranda, the police constable shot Ms. Graham in the head before turning the weapon on himself.
Ms. Graham's distraught mother remembered her daughter as a quiet and loving woman.
"Anybody called Maya, [she] comb everybody hair. Jesus Christ, Maya love me world without end. Jesus Christ, me cyah bear it. Me cyah bear it," the mother cried.
Reverend Dr. Anthony Armstrong, Assistant Chaplain for Area 2, has lamented the tragedy that has cast a dark shadow over the lives of the two families who live in close proximity to each other.
Reverend Armstrong said representatives of the Area 2 chaplaincy unit will be extending support to all affected.
"It is a tragic moment for this quiet community. The JCF chaplaincy team, we're here. The peer counsellors from St. Ann and St. Mary, our admin officer and psychologist, we're here along with other members of the force to offer our support to the family, in fact, the families that are grieving."
