Custos of St. Thomas Marcia Bennett has expressed reservation about the Government's plan to build a $30 million temporary Court House in Morant Bay.
Mrs. Bennett says the money would be better spent in renovating the old burnt out Court House.
The Custos is to meet with Minister of Justice Dorothy Lightbourne to discuss the matter.
“The feeling of the people of St. Thomas is that that money can be used to refurbish and re-roof the present courthouse we are urging the authorities to re-look at fixing the current courthouse,”
“We believe the structure is good and can hold and it would not take the amount of time that it would take to build a new building so we are appealing to the authorities to fix the present court house,” she said.
The Morant Bay Court House was destroyed by fire in February 2007.
In addition to the temporary court house, there are plans to build a new Court Facility in Morant Bay which is estimated to cost more than $240 million.
