St. Vincent and the Grenadines cuts fuel costs

Vincentians will on Sunday begin getting some ease from rising fuel costs, with the implementation of a government policy that would slash prices at the pump.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines Minister of Finance Camillo Gonsalves made the announcement on Thursday.

The excise tax on fuel will be halved.

The Finance Minister also announced that for the next three months, the customs service charge on cooking gas will be removed, since that product does not attract excise tax.

However, the savings will not be as significant as on gas and diesel.

The Finance Minister said the government will also waive the customs service charge on all fuel bought by VINLEC — the state-owned and sole commercial generator of electricity.
