The Communications Forensics and Cybercrime Unit (CFCU) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force(JCF)has acquired state of the art technology to assist with its investigations.
Cube Solutions, a private firm, has released a customised version of its electronic document and records management as well as eForms technologies. The new system allows the JCF to digitally automate the management, approval and auditing of all communications data requests, between police officers and service providers.
This technology is currently used extensively in a broad range of criminal investigations.
The Communications Forensics and Cybercrime Unit was formed in December 2010 and is manned by three officers.
They manage communications data requests involving the JCF, auxiliary police forces, independent investigators as well as the island's three main telecommunications service providers.
Historically the process of making requests for information, managing applications, getting a response, and analyzing the data, could take months as it was done manually.
