Supreme Court divorce racketeers to be charged

Charges are expected to be laid Tuesday against the two Supreme Court employees who were arrested last week.

Head of the Organised Criminal Investigation Division (OCID), Acting Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey told the RJR News Centre on Monday night the employees were not charged Monday evening as planned.

SSP Bailey says his office received a ruling from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) late in the afternoon and the decision was made to postpone the laying of charges until Tuesday.

The two employees are accused of being involved in a divorce racket operating within the corridors of the Supreme Court.

SSP Bailey said the cops had been probing alleged corruption on the Supreme Court building for more than a year.

Last week the police conducted a sting operation and nabbed the two.

It is alleged that they had been collecting money from persons who wanted to speed up divorce petitions.
