A Supreme Court judge has ordered that embattled Chairman of the Police Federation Corporal Rohan James be reinstated to his post.

The order was granted Friday afternoon following an application by his attorneys challenging his interdiction by the Police High Command.

Attorney Hugh Wildman said this a major victory for Corporal James.

"The Supreme Court granted Corporal James leave to apply for judicial review to quash the decision of the Police High Command to place him on interdiction and to institute disciplinary charge against him. The Supreme Court also, in the grant of leave, stayed the interdiction. That is to say, Corporal James can now resume his job immediately as chairman of the Police Federation with full pay," Mr. Wildman explained.

He said the court also directed that the Commissioner of Police be joined as a defendant along with Mr. Andrew Lewis, in the claim.

King's Counsel Peter Champagnie, who is representing the Police High Command, told Radio Jamaica News that his team will be filing an appeal against the ruling that Corporal James should be reinstated.

Corporal James was interdicted for his comments about overtime pay at the funeral of a slain lawman in July.

In a quick response to Friday's ruling, the Police Federation announced that Corporal James will be immediately resuming duties.

The Federation noted that presiding judge Tara Carr, in granting the order, refused an application by the attorneys for the High Command to appeal the stay of the court's decision.
