Teachers at Rusea's High stage sit-in

Teachers at Ruseas High School in Hanover are threatening to continue their protest action for the remainder of the week or until the Ministry of Education makes outstanding payments.

On Monday, the teachers began a sit in over the non-payment of retroactive amounts owed since September 2014.

An ongoing audit has been affecting payments to some Bursar-paid schools.

However, the teachers say the paper work has been submitted, but to date no money has come from the Ministry of Education.    Meanwhile students are being monitored by prefects as the teachers stay away from the classrooms.

According to Dawn Dawes, a teacher at the school, their names have been marked and a register will also be taken at the close of school.

The Regional Officer for the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA), Clayton Hall who visited the school and spoke with the staff, Bursar and Principal, say they have the full support of the association.
