Tension grips Riversdale, St. Catherine after police shooting

Emotions are running high in Riversdale and surrounding communities in St. Catherine Wednesday afternoon following Tuesday's controversial shooting by the police.

When RJR News visited the community of Heywood, near Troja, on Wednesday morning the residents had used trees to block the roadway.

The police say they were searching for wanted men known only as "Ratty" and "Tony" when they were fired on.

They say they returned fire and subsequently found 44-year-old Harvey Harrison also known as "Tony" and 23-year-old security guard Ryan Walsh dead.

Wednesday morning the RJR News team saw several bullet holes on the verandah and in two rooms at the house where the shooting is alleged to have taken place.

Several spent shells were also seen at the back of the house.

The roadblocks were cleared after the residents were addressed by Inspector Norman McDonald from the Linstead Police Station.

Inspector McDonald appealed to the residents to report to the relevant authority if the police carried out their duties unprofessionally.

Up to post time residents were still protesting under the watchful eyes of the police.
