The NWA to close Queensborough Ford in St. Andrew

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that the Queensborough Ford, located along Molynes Road, will be closed to vehicular traffic effective 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18.

Stephen Shaw, Manager for Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, says the closure is to facilitate the $126-million Queensborough Bridge Construction Project, which will see the establishment of a new two-lane vehicular Bridge with pedestrian walkways, across the Queensborough Ford.

He says this project forms part of the Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme, which is being executed through the Chinese Firm China Harbour Engineering Company and geared at addressing poor road infrastructure conditions, islandwide.

The closure of the Queenborough Ford, which will span the distance between Fairdene Avenue, on the Northern end of the Ford, and Greendale Drive on the Southern end, will be in effect for a period of seven months.

The alternative route for motorists travelling along Molynes Road, from the direction of Perkins Boulevard is Fairdene Avenue, onto Knights Dale Drive, onto Red Hills Road; then second right off Red Hills Road, onto Valentine Drive continuing onto Hillview Terrace; then left onto Molynes Road.

The reverse obtains for motorists travelling along Molynes Road from the direction of Washington Boulevard.

The National Works Agency is advising affected persons to obey all posted warning signs and flag persons, deployed along the route, during the period of closure.

The Queensborough Bridge Construction Project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2011.
