Three men were killed by the police during an alleged shootout in Kilmarnock, Westmoreland on Thursday night.

Their identities have not yet been released.

Another man was captured Friday morning.

It's reported that about 11 o'clock, the police were on patrol in Kilmarnock when they signalled a car with the men aboard to stop.

The vehicle sped off.

This led to a high speed chase which ended in the shootout.

The three men were seen suffering from bullet wounds.

A resident of Kilmarnock told Radio Jamaica News he was at home when he heard gunshots.

The police say a firearm and five rounds of ammunition were seized.

Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, Communication Officer for the Jamaica Constabulary Force, said one of the men involved in Thursday night's shootout with the police had been released from custody earlier that day.

The car the men were travelling in had been reported stolen in Westmoreland. However, all except one of the men appear to reside outside that parish.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the incident.
