There's discord among trade union groups representing public sector workers. The disagreement surrounds negotiations for allowances to government paid travelling officers. On Wednesday morning RJR News quoted one union representative as saying the groups turned down the government's latest offer during negotiations which took place Tuesday.
According to Chairman of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions' Public Sector Committee, Keith Comrie, the Government is proposing to set aside two billion dollars to cover the payments. However, he said the amount is woefully inadequate resulting in the unions rejecting the offer. But speaking with RJR News President of the Jamaica Civil Service Association, Oneil Grant expressed surprise at Mr. Comrie's pronouncement. Mr. Grant insisted that the negotiations are ongoing.
