Some motorists are fuming about traffic changes implemented in Barbican, St. Andrew.

The changes, which were recently implemented, have resulted in motorists travelling directly to Barbican Square, at the intersection of Barbican and East Kings House Road, being able to make left and right turns to travel towards Russell Heights or Liguanea.

The East Kings House Road and Barbican Road intersections as well as Barbican Road and Birdsucker Lane are controlled by traffic lights.

One motorist, Derrick Simon, described the traffic flow in Barbican Square as problematic as a result of the changes. He said there are several points at which motorists are required to switch lanes near a traffic light, however, the roads are not properly marked to facilitate these switches, and as such, it is likely to result in accidents.

Mr. Simon noted that the situation is more chaotic at peak hours.

But NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw has said it would have been impractical to mark the entire lane because of the short distance between traffic lights at Birdsucker Lane and Barbican Square.

However, he urged motorists to pay extra attention while driving through the area in light of the traffic changes.
