The Ministry of Tourism says a tropical disturbance has resulted in a number of cancellations and lengthy delays in flights between Jamaica and Florida.

The system that brought a rare flash flood emergency to much of southern Florida, delayed flights at two of the state's largest airports and left vehicles waterlogged and stalled in some of the region's lowest-lying streets.

Senior Advisor & Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seiveright, said this resulted in disruptions in flights between Jamaica and Miami as well as Jamaica and Fort Lauderdale.

"American Airlines had cancelled some flights and had a number of delays. JetBlue also had some delays and Spirit also impacted. We continue to monitor the situation and we are hopeful that normality will return in the coming 48 hours as things improve and the schedules get back in order."

Mr. Seiveright urged travellers to check with airlines to ensure that their flights are departing and, where necessary, make other arrangements to get to their respective destinations.
