Dr. Christopher Tufton and Dr. Morais Guy
As part of Jamaica's preparations in the event the coronavirus enters the country, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton on Thursday morning toured locations for quarantine at the National Chest Hospital and the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA).
Dr. Tufton, who spoke to Radio Jamaica News shortly after the tour, said he is satisfied with what he saw.
He said supplies as well as two rooms at the National Chest Hospital have been readied for the threat.
In addition, he said border protection workers, equipment and a three-room, six-bed isolation area are in place at NMIA.
The government has restricted travel between Jamaica and China in light of the coronavirus.
Right decision
The Parliamentary Opposition has said Jamaica made the right decision to issue a advisory for persons travelling to and from China.
According to Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy, Jamaica is facing a potential national crisis, therefore it was smart to postpone travels between the countries.
He said the Opposition is prepared to work along with Government to deal with the threat.
More than 170 people have died in China as a result of the respiratory virus.
The coronavirus has so far spread to 15 other countries.
