Two people captured attempting to smuggle a large quantity of US dollars into the country, two weeks ago, were on Friday remanded when they appeared before the St. Andrew Parish Court.

The two defendants, 44-year-old Deno Baker, a mason of Bodles Crescent, Old Harbour and Randy-Kay Blair, a 30-year-old cosmologist of Harrison Town, St. Ann, were remanded until April 8 when their attorneys will apply for bail.

Mr. Baker and Ms. Blair were arrested on March 12 shortly after they landed at Norman Manley International Airport.

The narcotics police say they seized US$70,000 or J$10 million in their luggage.

The cops say the US currency was found concealed in jars of hair products.

The two were charged under the Proceeds of Crime Act with being in possession of criminal property; cross border movement of funds; bringing criminal property into Jamaica; concealing criminal property and conspiracy.
