The community of Townhead in Westmoreland continues to be
plagued by tragedies with two houses being gutted by fire early Friday morning.
The incident has left 14 persons, including seven children, homeless and the police are investigating reports of arson.
It was about one o'clock Friday morning that residents saw a section of a wooden house engulfed in flames.
They made an alarm and summoned the fire department.
However the fire quickly spread to a neighbouring house and both houses were destroyed.
Family members salvaged only a mattress from the inferno.
The fire, which residents are adamant was deliberately set left a million dollars in losses.
Since the rape and murder of Shanna-Kay Legister and Shanika Shakes in 2005 the community has faced a series of tragedies.
Two other houses were gutted last year and two children died from poisoning in December.
