Two inmates die within days of each other at HWT lock-up

An investigation has been launched following the sudden death of a second inmate from the Half-Way Tree police lockup in St Andrew within a week.

The deceased has been identified as 68-year-old Donovan Phillips.

The police report that about 3:30 p.m., Friday the senior citizen, who was being held for arson and murder, was inside his cell and complained of feeling ill.

He was taken to Kingston Public Hospital  where he died while being treated.

On September 24, David Satchel also died at KPH after he was found unresponsive in his cell. He was 59 years old.

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into both incidents.
