Two men convicted for violent attack on a motorist in 2024

Two men, who were accused of carrying out a violent attack on a motorist following a motor vehicle crash in Kintrye, St Andrew, last year, were convicted in the Supreme Court, last week.

Romario Smith and Dillion James were convicted last Thursday on several offences, including Shooting with Intent, Wounding with Intent, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony.

They are to be sentenced on February 13, next year.

Prosecutors had reported that in August 2024, the complainant and the son of James were in a motor crash along Hope River Street, Kintrye. This led to an argument which became physical, during which James attacked and chopped the complainant's his left hand with a machete.

Smith, who is the cousin of James, pulled a firearm and shot at the complainant, who managed to escape being shot.

The complainant was hospitalised for two days at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

The matter was reported to the Half Way Tree Police, and James and Smith were apprehended during two separate police operations and were later charged.
