Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has announced that direct flights between Mexico and Jamaica are expected to begin on March 18 next year, subject to approval by both governments, as Jamaica seeks to boost visitor arrivals and increase foreign exchange earnings.
He says the flights will operate from Mexico City International Airport to Sangster International Airport three times per week.
The agreement will also allow travellers from more than 40 cities in Aeromexico's domestic network to connect to Montego Bay through Mexico City.
The flights are scheduled for Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The push comes as Jamaica recorded net inflows of about US$615 million from tourism during the first five months of this year.
Remittance inflows amounted to about US$1.5 billion, while the business process outsourcing sector generated approximately US$250 million over the period.
